The annual Green Ship Technology Conference took place last month in Copenhagen and Mark Cameron, COO of Ardmore Shipping, joined the Judging Panel for the GST Awards.

Green Ship Technology is one of the leading conferences and exhibitions on the global shipping calendar.  The event places a particular focus on technology solutions that support cleaner, more efficient and more environmentally responsible shipping.  Over the years, it has become a focal point for debate and discussion over the efficiency and environmental challenges facing the shipping industry, as well as an opportunity for technology providers to showcase their latest innovations.

The Green Ship Technology Awards recognises the ongoing efforts of the shipping industry to protect the marine environment and Mark Cameron, Ardmore’s COO, was proud to be asked to join the four-strong Judging Panel.

In considering the award contenders, the Panel looked for the most innovative technologies and practices put into use during the past 12 months that would benefit the marine environment.  A long list of worthy entries were assessed, scored and ranked by the judges in order to arrive at their shortlist and the two eventual winners; Stena AB as ‘Shipowner of the Year’ for their ‘Methanol – a fuel of the future’ entry and MAN Diesel & Turbo as ‘Green Technology of the Year’ for its ‘De-rating: slow steaming optimisation with de-rating and propeller upgrade’ entry.

Speaking after the conclusion of the judging process for the GST Awards, Mark Cameron said:

“The application of green technologies and eco-efficiency solutions within the shipping industry has never been more important or business-critical than it is today. We see this every day at Ardmore Shipping, whether through the eco-efficiency technologies employed across our fleet, or our relentless focus on eco-efficient operations to optimise the performance of our vessels.

From an environmental, operational and commercial perspective, green technologies have a huge role to play in shaping the future of the shipping industry and this was reflected in the number and quality of the entries submitted for the Green Ship Technology Awards.  It was a tough task to identify the winners from a very strong field, but also very gratifying to see such high levels of investment, innovation and diversity in the green technology solutions put forward.”
