Ardmore colleagues supporting local communities

Back to news

At Ardmore, a strong culture is shaped not only by how we work together each day, but also by how colleagues support the communities around them. Across Cork, Houston and the wider maritime sector, teams have put Ardmore’s One Team ethos into action through volunteering, fundraising and industry collaboration.

From helping to redirect surplus food to community organisations, to taking on a demanding mountain challenge in support of seafarer welfare and backing access to life-changing medical care, these initiatives reflect a shared commitment to people, wellbeing and responsible participation. Together, they show how local action and collective effort can create meaningful impact.

Supporting FoodCloud in Cork

FoodCloud volunteering gives employees the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the local community by helping to reduce food waste and support those in need. Team members spent time sorting, packing and distributing surplus food to charities and community groups.

It was a rewarding experience that promoted teamwork, strengthened community connections and supported sustainability efforts. Volunteering with FoodCloud allowed colleagues to give back while developing a greater appreciation of the challenges faced by many people across Ireland. It is a simple but powerful way to make a positive difference.

Staff from Ardmore’s Cork office participated in volunteering days in March and July. Magda Chaber, Emma Mulcahy, Olivia Chaber and Caroline Murphy took part in March, while Linda Murphy, Rui Feng, Mona Holden and Susanne Deane volunteered in July.

Supporting Mercy Ships in Houston

On 4 February 2026, friends and competitors from across the shipping community came together for the second annual Mercy Ships Cargo Day Houston Soiree at The Post Oak Hotel. More than 350 guests attended, helping the event raise over $600,000 through table purchases, an auction, donations and other fundraising activities – that’s the equivalent of approximately 1,091 surgeries.

Mercy Ships currently operates two hospital vessels, Africa Mercy and Global Mercy. Crewed by general, technical and medical volunteers, the vessels provide free surgeries and services to people with limited access to safe medical care.

The Ardmore Shipping Houston office was pleased to attend and support the event. Representing Ardmore and its wider network were Holly Cummings and Brad Arnold, Greg and Meena Grieco, Fernanda Gallardo, Kayla Davenport, Teri and Mark Swint, Gary Morgan and Barney Guest.

Racing in support of seafarer welfare

In June 2026, an Ardmore team took on the Mission to Seafarers Maritime Mountain Race in Geneva, a challenging and rewarding event in support of seafarer welfare. Representing Ardmore were Kayla Davenport, Voyage Manager Houston; Abhijit Ghosh, Marine Manager; and Jack Ryan, Corporate Finance Analyst.

Together, they tackled a demanding mountain course, demonstrating determination, teamwork and spirit throughout. The race not only tested their physical endurance but also highlighted the importance of supporting seafarers around the world.

The team raised an impressive $12,165 for the Mission to Seafarers, supporting the vital work it carries out globally. It was a brilliant effort and a fantastic achievement for a very worthy cause.

Although each initiative took a different form, all three were driven by the same principle that meaningful progress begins with people choosing to contribute. By giving their time, energy and support, Ardmore colleagues helped strengthen local communities and extend care to seafarers and families around the world.

These efforts bring Ardmore’s One Team culture to life beyond the day-to-day operation of the fleet. They demonstrate the value of working together, building strong connections and taking practical action to support a more responsible and sustainable future for shipping and the communities it serves.
