Performance and progress: Ardmore’s 2024 Sustainability Report
Back to newsAt Ardmore, we don’t see sustainability and performance as trade-offs – we see them as inseparable. Our 2024 Sustainability Report captures how we continue to lead through action, integrating operational excellence, innovation, and responsible stewardship to deliver long-term value.
This year’s report highlights tangible progress across our environmental, social, and governance priorities, reflecting our vision to set the standard in performance and progress while remaining true to our purpose: safely delivering energy, mobility and essential commodities to the world.
“Ardmore remains steadfast in its mission to use sustainable practices to further performance and progress,” said our CEO Gernot Ruppelt, “We look forward to embracing opportunities to innovate, evolve and ensure long-term success and value for all our stakeholders.”
Technology-driven environmental leadership
In 2024, Ardmore implemented 20 energy-saving initiatives across its fleet, investing $14 million in energy efficiency upgrades and voyage optimization. These included cutting-edge tools such as DeepSea Technologies’ AI platform, advanced hull performance monitoring systems, and a range of emissions-reducing retrofits.
Through optimized routing and high-frequency data analysis, Ardmore saved over 11,000 metric tons of CO₂ in the past year alone.
“Our Energy Transition Plan continues to be at the center of our strategy – enhancing operational efficiency and reducing carbon impact,” said Bart Kelleher, our President and CFO. “These aren’t just experiments. They’re performance multipliers.”
A culture of safety, empowerment and inclusion
Our safety culture is embedded in everything we do – from drydock operations and weekly fleet calls to customized digital tools like our AFLIX and Safety Rating apps. In 2024, we achieved a Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) of 0.25, with no fatalities or permanent disabilities. With zero detentions across the fleet and over 85% of our port state inspections reflecting no deficiencies, our track record of independent inspections ranks among the highest levels of industry performance. We approach every inspection as an opportunity to learn and welcome the chance to address any substantiated areas for improvement that are identified, reinforcing our commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
We also expanded our support for seafarer wellbeing through improved internet connectivity, regular engagement, and leadership programs like WAVES for women at sea. With 16 female officers now onboard and our first female Chief Officer appointed, Ardmore is driving meaningful change in representation and opportunity.
Governance built for the future
This year also marked a smooth leadership transition as our founder Anthony Gurnee retired, succeeded by Gernot Ruppelt as CEO and Bart Kelleher as President and CFO. Both also joined the Board of Directors as part of a broader evolution in Ardmore’s governance structure.
With a 7-member board and five independent directors, we continue to lead on transparency and oversight – once again ranked #1 for governance among public tanker companies by the Webber Governance Scorecard.
